Rock ’n’ Raise — Making Every Note Count

ROCK ‘N’ RAISE

Rock n Raise was our first major fundraising event of The Graham Wylie Foundation, bringing some of the UK’s leading musicians to the North East to help make every note count. It may have been our first but it certainly won’t be our last! Since it fell on the same day as the Great North Run, we ran it as an after party for all the brilliant runners to Run, Rock n Raise!

“We can’t wait to put on one of the best shows this city has ever seen, and I’m sure alongside Kaiser Chiefs and Kodaline we can do that.”

Where Rock ’n’ Raise began

Rock n Raise was the first major fundraising event of the Graham Wylie Foundation, bringing some of the UK’s leading musicians to the North East to help make every note count. Held on the same day as the Great North Run, we ran it as an after party for all the brilliant runners — to Run, Rock n Raise. The night was headlined by the legendary indie rock group Kaiser Chiefs, who put on an amazing show to raise money for Teenage Cancer Trust and Nordoff Robbins, with Peanut even running the Great North Run before taking to the stage.

A night to remember

Irish rockers Kodaline joined the bill and had the audience mesmerised. Opening the show were local lads Lisbon, whose lead singer Matty Varty called it “one of those bucket list gigs where we get to fulfil a massive dream of ours”. Simon Donald, the mastermind behind Viz, hosted the night and had the entire audience laughing throughout — alongside brave young adults from Teenage Cancer Trust and Nordoff Robbins, including a speech from the fantastic Ed on why the night mattered so much.

Punk Rock n Raise was an event set up by SSD Concerts in association with Crate Digger Records, featuring Crashed Out, Force Fed Lies and Zombiehater at Think Tank? Underground. The night was an absolute success, with all three bands putting on an amazing show and raising money for the new Music Therapy centre in Newcastle.

The evening was hosted by a JazzFM presenter and Ian Shaw, who also performed some jazz classics and guested with house band Groovetrain and Incognito’s Bluey. It got underway with the most serene of starts from Ajoia, featuring Anthony Gorry and Andrew Lovell, formerly of M People. Groovetrain was then transformed into a ‘Geordie Supergroup’ with the addition of Sam Fender’s saxman Johnny ‘Blue Hat’ Davis, Liam Fender, Hairy Biker Si King, and a surprise performance from Newcastle’s new star Andrew Cushin, who performed the classic ‘Wishing On A Star’.

Ladies Rock ’n’ Raise

The 6th instalment of our ‘Rock n Raise’ fundraising series, this event truly surpassed expectations. Multi-platinum chart topper Ella Henderson led an all-female line-up, sharing the billing at the event hosted by Hits Radio’s Stephanie Hirst, as well as a roll call of young, upcoming North East artists. From this event we were able to raise over £10,000 to directly benefit Teenage Cancer Trust and Cash For Kids North East, making a tangible difference in the lives of those in need.
