Teenage Cancer Trust

Teenage Cancer Trust exists to support every young person with cancer in the UK, but right now we can only reach half of the younf people who need us.

This must change. Our mission is to reach every young person with cancer in the UK by 2020. Young people with cancer are traditionally treated alongside children or elderly patients, isolating them when they most need support and care that’s specific to their age group.

We fund specialist units for young people with cancer in NHS hospitals, providing everything they need to feel comfortable in hospital. Our units allow young people with cancer to receive expert treatment in the same place so they can meet and spend time with each other.

The units’ bright social spaces are packed with things to do like gaming, wifi, pool tables and jukeboxes. The support patient’s give each other is incredibly powerful in helping them through their cancer experience.

There are two Teenage Cancer Trust units in Newcastle, within the Great North Children’s Hospital, and the Freeman Hospital. We also work closely with smaller designated hospitals in Sunderland and Middlesbrough to reach young people with cancer who live further away from the units and want to be treated closer to home in an environment designed for their age-group.

Over the coming years we will be extending our nursing and support outreach programme so that by 2020 every young person with cancer will have access to this specialist care. We are really excited to be working with the Graham Wylie Foundation, whose generous support will help us reach this goal
